The travel industry and Twitter, part 2
I’d written this post nearly two months ago – a small list of those travel firms that were actively using Twitter. It wasn’t a long list, but since then I’ve noticed a lot more companies signing up.
According to Twitterholic, the who’s who of micro-blogging, Barack Obama still leads the way with 145,000 followers. But I was really surprised to see Stephen Fry so high on the list.
Last time I looked (see this post), he had about 15,000 followers. In the last six weeks that amount has doubled. So there you go, scientific proof it’s taking the world by storm.
So, back to travel. Below I’m recreating the list of companies using Twitter. You can flick between the old post and this one to see who I’ve added, and these new ones may have been around for a while… I’m adding them here purely because I’ve come across them.

And please leave a comment to let me know if I’ve missed anyone out, or follow me here, or here.
Matt, great list of travel tweeters.
It would be great if you could create a ‘Twitter Ranking System’ for the travel industry – top 10 travel tweeters. I’m not sure how you’d base the ranking though – perhaps use a follow-to-followed ratios?
Hi there
You missed us off we are http://www.twitter.com/smithhotels (and we should have been on the first list as we have been doing it for longer than 2 months.

I really like this. It is a great list and I think it will be very helpful. I was not aware of most of these companies being on Twitter. I’ve only come across a few of them.

Hi Matt,
Great post. You really need to get in touch with Martin (@coldinpdx) from GoSeeTell in Portland. Martin has been monitoring and reporting on Twitter usage among U.S. destinations for a couple of months.
See his posts here:

Also, you need to add @ArizonaTourism to your list as well.
Keep up the good work.
