A word of warning for RyanAirOnline
(Update – 2.15pm Thursday 5 March: It’s a fake. I thought as much. Confirmed on The Times website, and Ryanair lawyers are going to force it to shut down – but the rogue Twitterer is still active. Wouldn’t like to be in their shoes.)
Not content with calling bloggers lunatics and touting coin-operated toilets, we now have to put up with Ryanair on Twitter – 55 updates so far for RyanAirOnline.
Or do we, though?
Its biography states:
It is Ryanair policy not to waste time & energy corresponding w/idiot bloggers & Ryanair can confirm that it won’t be happening again.
Could this be another case of web anonyminity? I hope not – I’m not a big fan of it (see my last post: The mysterious disappearance of Travel Jerk).
So far, RyanAirOnline looks fairly innocuous, but I’m not sure if it’s the official Twitter.
It carries the angry tone we saw with member of staff who called bloggers idiots:
Actually.. too early to cope w/you tv brainmushed people. This isn’t nearly as amusing as Michael said it would be. What a flipping waste.
But then again, there are thousands of people out there who dislike Ryanair, so why not pretend to be them, online, and cause stress for them?
Anyway – if anyone reading this has more information about RyanAirOnline, or any views whether this is infact more marketing spin from the airline, please leave a comment.
Either way, I’ll be following its conversations, in a car-crash kind of way. And if the author of RyanAirOnline is reading this post, please take care and try not to insult EVERYONE! It will back fire.
For more travel firms on Twitter – most of them the real thing – check out my Travel/Twitter list, and please leave a comment if I’ve missed anyone out.

Just spoke to Ryanair who confirmed they do operate this twitter account!
Interesting use of the medium…..
Hey Joe,
Interesting. I’ve got a feeling this is going to end in tears. They’re already insulting a lot of people, so by tomorrow we’ll probably see this in the national newspapers, then the BBC, and so on.
I feel a backlash coming on.
The quote they gave travolution was very interesting…
“We will use the usual voice and style of Ryanair.”
So at the moment the style is aggressive and rude? interesting…
