The walk of lunacy
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of London magazine Time Out. But I’m not sure their latest issue paints my neighbourhood in the best light.
It’s nice to be able to combine tourism with my local area again (or you could read my last post on the subject: Abta: Welcome to the neighbourhood) – so I’ll forgive Time Out this time.
This issue features a great selection of walks around London, and this one in particular (see image below for the page) looks at Southwark’s history and relationship with mental illness, taking in “Europe’s roughest estate” and various hospitals.
I also learnt something interesting, and useless, from the article – William Blake’s phrase “I could sleep on a washing line” originated just next to where I live, Tabard Gardens.
If you’ve got time, it’s a walk worth doing. My only concern is that some say lunacy is catching…
