Abta Travel Convention 2008

October 7, 2008

This convention, in Gran Canaria, is already in its second day.

More updates to follow, but for all the news there is this great micro-site from TTG here while Travel Weekly has latest news as well.

The convention follows from last month’s Advantage conference (Advantage is one of the main consortia of travel agents in the UK).

So the next few days will allow time for people to reflect on two major conferences, and on this blog I’ll be looking to digest some of the news, and outcomes.

Most importantly, from Gran Canaria, we’ll hear if John McEwan (head of Advantage) will manage to create within Abta a division that would represent travel agents in the same way that the FTO (Federation of Tour Operators) worked. The FTO merged with Abta a few months ago, another example of consolidation within the travel industry.
