Social media safari hunts – do they work?

Was sent an email last week about Whyte & Mackay’s free whisky safari – like an Easter egg hunt, but for grown-ups, as it’s a bottle of whiskey you have to chase down.

This is a great effort, but sometimes these ideas are information overload.

Just look at the applications involved:

  • Twitter
  • Twitpics
  • Google Latitude
  • Seesmic
  • SMS
  • Google Mail
  • Use of #w&m hash tag

A big ask, if you ask me. Plus it’s a Friday – if I’m in the pub, there’s no way my brain is going to be able to cope with all of this. It’s difficult enough to hear your phone ring…

I think the end was result was that the lion ended up in a pub in Covent Garden (pictured at the top).

Nice idea though, and I think HostelBookers (screen grab below) is running a similar competition (more here), so I’ll hopefully get round to having a look at this at some point later…
